ACU-Early Career Researcher Training Programme on Presentation Skills and Proposal Writing

Objectives of the training
To develop skills and techniques that will give confidence and capability to give good presentations
Provide skills needed to make impactful, persuasive powerful presentations
To train the researchers on writing successful research proposals

Planned outcomes
The participants will:
 Understand the dos and don'ts of effective presentations
 Learn to develop powerful body language
 Learn to retain the attention of audience throughout their presentation
 Learn to design and use visual aids in presentation
 Learn to structure the presentation so that it creates an impact
 Understand priorities of donor agencies and funding opportunities
 Learn the qualities of a successful proposal
 Learn to write successful research proposals

INAUGURAL ADDRESS

Dr Fr Joseph Varghese Kureethara is heading the Centre for Research at Christ University. He has over seventeen years of experience in teaching and research at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, and has published over 100 articles in the fields of Graph Theory, Number Theory, Fuzzy Optimization, History, Religious Studies, and Sports both in English and Malayalam, in journals such as International Journal of Fuzzy Systems, Journal of Cleaner Production, IET Renewable Power Generation, International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, Socio-Economic Planning Sciences, Match, etc. Joseph Varghese has authored three books and co-edited six books including Recent Trends in Signal and Image Processing (Springer, 2021), Data Science and Security (Springer, 2021), and Neuro-Systemic Applications in Learning (Springer, 2021). His blog articles, comments, facts, and poems have earned about 1.5 lakhs total page views. He has delivered invited talks in over thirty conferences and workshops. He is Mathematics Section Editor of Mapana Journal of Sciences, Member of the Editorial Board, and Reviewer of several journals. He has worked as Member of the Board of Studies, Board of Examiners, and Management Committee of several institutions. He has supervised 5 PhDs, 12 M.Phils, is supervising 7 PhDs, and is employed as Professor of Mathematics, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru.

TRAINING PROGRAMME COORDINATOR

Dr Mary Anita E A is Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Christ University, Bengaluru, India and also coordinates the PhD course of the department. She is a passionate researcher and served in various teaching and administrative capacities over three decades. As a coordinator of this training programme, Mary Anita will use the ECR grant to equip PhD students with essential skills needed to make impactful, persuasive powerful presentations and train them in writing successful research proposals thereby enabling them to succeed professionally.

RESOURCE PERSONEL

Dr Balachandran K, working as Professor and Head of the Department in Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Christ University, Bangalore. He has done his PhD in the Information and Communication Engineering in Anna University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He guides research scholars in the area of Data Science, Image processing and Software Engineering. He has been resource person for various AICTE sponsored STTP programs and organized various International & National conferences.

Dr Naveen J is currently working as Assistant Professor in the department of CSE, Christ University. He is passionate towards technology and online teaching pedagogies. He has conducted various workshops on Effective Online Teaching Learning Strategies along with National Institute of Technology, Trichy. He has developed content, designed training modules and delivered multiple training sessions on presentation skills, online teaching learning and hybrid teaching to the faculty of Christ University).

Dr Vandana Reddy, Assistant Professor, Dept. of CSE, Christ University, Bangalore has been identified as the trainer for grant writing. She is an active member of the department who. has organised various workshops and Tech Talks that synchronises with the theme. She has good research publications in reputed journals. She has filed few patents and currently handling few internal and external funded projects.

Dr Madhavi Rangaswamy is an Associate Professor, Department of Psychology at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), involved in research funded by DST-CSRI, MRC-ICMR funded cVEDA project (2016 – 2019) which was one of the largest Indian studies on psychiatric vulnerabilities. She completed her postgraduate training in Neurophysiology and her PhD in Mental Health & Neurosciences from NIMHANS, Bangalore. She has completed postdoctoral work at Henri Begleiter Neurodynamics Laboratory, Brooklyn NY and a fellowship program in fMRI at MGH, Harvard, USA. She has put together several NIH grants that were successful funded and is an Associate Editor at Frontiers for Cognitive Neuroscience. She conducts capacity building programs for faculty from various departments and a Cognitive Electrophysiology elective for MSc Psychology students apart from regular research.

Dr Jyothi Thomas, currently works as Associate Professor in the department of Computer Science and Engineering and she is also the Coordinator of Centre for Social Action, Christ University. She is passionate in social services and has contributed to many training programmes focussing on personality development and holistic education. She is an active researcher and currently Principal Investigator of a research project funded by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

Dr K Sreenath Assistant Professor, Dept. of Psychology, Christ University, Bangalore also coordinates the Ph.D. programme of the department. Currently, he is part of the extension service offered by Christ University for HIV-infected adolescents at Snehagram Vocational and Rehabilitation Centre, Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu. As part of the project, he has facilitated sessions on mindfulness meditation for adolescents living with HIV. He is also part of the training consultancy service offered by the Department of Psychology, Christ University for the administrative and paramedical staff of ESI Corporation, Bangalore.

Dr Sheeja Karalam, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology, Christ University, will be trainer for grant writing. She is a competent and versatile Professional Social worker, educated to PhD level, with over 8 years of Research Projects experience gained at the renowned Developmental organizations and 16 years of Academic Social work experience in reputed Universities in India. Possesses a sound working knowledge of Social work research, Community Development, teaching social work methods, Project Proposal writing and Life skill trainings. She has previous experience in providing internal and external training and mentorship using the blended mode to academic staff as well as research groups on grant writing.

Dr Sujatha A K has completed her masters from Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and Doctoral Thesis from CHRIST (Deemed to be University) in Text Mining area of Ensemble Modeling. She is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bangalore. Her area of research includes Data Science, Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Social Media Analytics.
